Description
One of the most colorful B-17's of the USAAF bombing campaign against Germany in World War II, "A Bit O' Lace is a B-17G from the 709th Squadron, 447th Bombardment Group based at Rattelsden, England. The nose art was donated to the crew by noted pin-up artist Milton Caniff, who was a friend of the plane's co-pilot. In April 1945, just a month before the war ended in Europe, "Miss Lace" was damaged by flak on a mission and had to have part of the wind and tail replaced - thus the older style wing and tail rudder paint. Original Acrylic painting - this image was revised digitally.
